featured opera:

The Telephone

All Ben wants is to propose to his girlfriend, Lucy, before he heads out of town. When he goes to her apartment to pop the question, though, he gets interrupted by a constant stream of phone conversations. Sound familiar?

Written in 1947, this charming 20-minute opera is more relevant now than its composer could ever have imagined.

Opera at the

Levitt Shell

Every year since the very beginning, 30 days of Opera has featured a concert at Memphis' iconic Levitt Shell. This event gives us the perfect opportunity to do what we do best: combining the best of opera with such entertaining gems as Edith Piaf songs and 80s rock classics!

Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017
Beginning at 7 pm

So What's the deal with

30 Days of Opera?

30 Days of Opera is exactly what it sounds like: 30 days of totally awesome - totally FREE - performances by Opera Memphis. For the entire month of September, we take the show on the road - singing all over Memphis and the MidSouth. We like to say that we spend the month turning the "opera house inside out," and it could not be more true! Whether we are at a large community festival, singing on a street corner, or doing a show of The Playground King (our original children's opera), we'll be somewhere near you! Explore this website to learn more, and plan to see us again next year!

Supported by OPERA America's Building Audiences Grant Program, supported by the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation.
