About Opera Memphis: Welcome

Welcome to the Opera Memphis website, OperaMemphis.org. On this site you'll find information about our wide range of activities, including our 2010-2011 season and our award-winning education and outreach program.

Last year our most often heard request was for grand opera. Opera Memphis opens the 2010-2011 season with the grandest grand opera of all--Verdi's AIDA. Starring Kishna Davis (PORGY AND BESS and PAGLIACCI), AIDA transports you to ancient Egypt in a stunning production, complete with large chorus, dancers, Aida trumpets and CAMELS! The next two productions are collaborations. First, the theatre and opera worlds will be watching Memphis as we premiere A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, opera a cappella. A collaboration with Playhouse on the Square, Michael Ching's new music theatre treatment of Shakespeare's classic text features opera singers, singing actors and singers from Memphis' own Delta Cappella. The season closes with Rossini's most famous comedy, the BARBER OF SEVILLE. Sing "Figaro Figaro Figaro" as Opera Memphis produces the world's best comic opera in collaboration with the Mississippi Opera.
