Education and Outreach

Opera Memphis hosts a variety of year-round educational programs for young people ranging from pre-K through high school. Our efforts include: original children’s operas; a Beginners Guide to Opera; a youth conservatory camp; and a touring series that celebrates legendary black opera singers. We take these programs to hundreds of local schools, hospitals, and community organizations, and we reach more than 17,000 children and teens per year.

This year from April 28 to May 24, we'll be taking Jack and the Beanstalk to schools throughout the midsouth, introducing children from preschool to eighth grade to opera. We'll also be bringing our original program Black Roots of Opera to schools, libraries, and community centers. If you are interested in hosting either of these programs, let us know at

Do you work for a community organization that might be interested in hosting a presentation by our outstanding singers? Our Community Outreach Team has experience providing customized, high-quality programs for organizations ranging from businesses and social clubs to churches and hospitals. In fact, every September, we help deliver a full month of free programs all over Memphis: 30 Days of Opera! Please contact Sarah Squire, Director of Operations, at 901.202.4548 or
