The mission of the Opera Memphis Education and Outreach Department is:
- to cultivate an appreciation for the arts in younger audiences
- to produce high quality entertainment and experiences that are socially relevant, often through the creation and production of news works; and
- to provide cultural stimulation and opportunities for participation to people of all ages, incomes, ethnicities and abilities.
Our Commitment to Education
Opera Memphis offers a variety of education programs designed to encourage interest in music and the arts. Last season, our Education and Outreach programs reached more than 15,000 people across the MidSouth. Your support of Opera Memphis provides music education and outreach programs to children who would otherwise lack these opportunities.
The importance of early exposure to music has been demonstrated in studies focused on what has been termed the "Mozart Effect," indicating that music increases focus and can improve spatial-temporal reasoning skills and performance in mathematics in children beginning at the pre-school level.
