BLACK ROOTS OF SONG: ELLA FITZGERALD
BLACK ROOTS OF SONG : Ella Fitzgerald is a touring show during Black History Month based on the work of the sensational Ella Fitzgerald. Dubbed “The First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century, and she was one of the best scat singers in the world. Shaleah Adkisson, a versatile singing actress, will take you on a journey of Lady Ella’s life and career through song. Shaleah, a native of Conway, AR, is currently living in New York City and has performed roles in THE HOT MIKADO, BEEHIVE:THE 60S MUSICAL, AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’, GREASE, NUNSENSE, CHILDREN OF EDEN and recently performed the role of Kibibi in the Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. She also sang as a guest artist in a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald at New Haven Symphony Orchestra. Opera Memphis will provide a study guide for integrating the Black Roots of Song performance into the curriculum.
