Opera Memphis’ ninth annual MIDTOWN OPERA FESTIVAL is coming to Playhouse on the Square March 28-April 4, 2020, and this year it's all about Mozart! The Festival is anchored by performances of Così fan tutte, Mozart's comedic look at young relationships and their strength. After the opera, the audience is invited to join us for a drink in the Festival Lounge or head to one of the many Festival Fringe Events.

Surrounding the operas, we've curated a world of additional events - Festival Fringe Events - that are designed to deepen your experience, highlight something new, or expand the definition of what an opera festival can be. This year, the Fringe Event calendar features Mozart After Dark for our 21 and older crowd; Bastien & Bastienne directed by McCleave Fellow Bethania Baray; screenings of Amadeus; Mozart: Lost & Found - lesser-known and familiar pieces brought back to life; the ever-popular family event Cartoons & Cereal, featuring new and classic cartoons that introduced generations to the sound of opera; and more exciting events!

Featured Opera

Each opera is preceded by an Opera Prelude Talk 45 minutes before the performance in the Festival Lounge, providing insight into the story, characters, and music. After the opera, the audience is invited to the Festival Lounge for a drink or to catch one of the many Festival Fringe Events.

It is often said that love is blind and fickle as the people it possesses, but young Ferrando and Guglielmo and their fiancés Dorabella and Fiordiligi swear absolute trust, fidelity, and devotion to each other as they prepare to walk down the aisle... That is until the astute Don Alfonso presents the young men with an opportunity to test the bonds of love. Will Ferrando and Guglielmo choose to open this Pandora's box on their relationships? Can their sweethearts surmount the challenges that they would inevitably face? Or will it all come crashing down upon them like so many tiers of wedding cake? Find out with this comedic romp through the hearts of men and women.
