Frequently Asked Questions
How much do costumes cost?
Principal costumes are generally $120 per costume and Chorus/Supers are $80/$90 per costume.
How much is shipping?
Shipping both ways is the responsibility of the Renter, and it can vary tremendously. An average show will cost $400 - $500 to ship one way within the continental United States via UPS 5 to 7 day delivery.
We are close to memphis. can we pick up the costumes in lieu of shipping?
Absolutely, and if you like, we can open our warehouse so you can pull pieces from our stock.
Can we alter the costume once it arrives?
Renter is given permission to alter the costumes, however, no part of any costume may be cut or otherwise altered in a manner which prevents return to its previous condition. Costumes that are altered must be returned to their original condition before being returned to Opera Memphis or a fee of $25 per hour will be charged to Renter to cover labor costs.
What iF we only want to rent one costume or a few costumes?
Usually we can accommodate individual or small ensemble rentals. The cost is the same per costume, and load in/load out and cleaning fees are prorated on a per costume basis.
What are the other charges included in a full show rental?
There is a load in and load out fee which ranges from $400 - $800 (depending on the size of the rental), a cleaning fee which ranges from $500 to $800 (depending on the size of the rental), and a $500 refundable security deposit. For an example rental order with all applicable fees, CLICK HERE.
I need last minute costumes! can you send them quickly?
We are not always able to accomodate such requests - we typically need costume rental orders placed one month in advance of when you need them - however, we understand life happens and we will do what we can to get you something on short notice. There will be an additional Rush Fee of $250 for less than 4 weeks lead time or a Super Rush Fee of $500 for anything less than 2 weeks lead time on your rental order.
We want to rent one of your shows, but we need more costumes than what is in your current stock. can you make extra costumes?
Given enough lead time, we can make additional costumes for most (but not all) of our shows. The fee for custom rentals ranges from $220 - $350 per costume (depending on the design). All arrangements for custom costumes would be discussed and a rental fee agreed upon prior to the signing of the contract.
We have had a change in casting. Can we change our contract/total number of costumes/sizes of the costumes already agreed upon?
As long as the changes are made at least one month out from the delivery date and the costumes in question are not custom orders, we will do what we can to make the changes for you. If it is less than one month from delivery, there will be an additional fee per costume for the loading in/out of new costumes. Changes on custom orders cannot occur once the costume is already in fabrication.
What if we do not have a costumer on location and need help with fittings and alterations?
If enough advance notice is given, we can put you in touch with a costumer who can fit and alter your show on location for roughly $300 per day plus travel and housing based on availability.
