Opera Memphis Summer Conservatory: Session I students ages 12 to 18 will present the operetta, The Pleasantly Petrified Pirates of Paxton with music and lyrics by Arthur Sullivan and W.S Gilbert and book by Sarah Squire.
After escaping an upsetting squid complication, the Pleasantly Petrified Pirates of Paxton dock on the Island of Devyn where townsfolk are abuzz with curiosity about the upcoming wedding of Princess Éowyn and Duke Wesley of Waverly, a mysterious Englishman. As it turns out, the princess is not at all thrilled about her upcoming nuptials. With the arrival of the pirate Roderic, troubling questions arise about Wesley’s identity and the nature of his character and a map. Eowyn and Roderic embark, along with the Pleasantly Petrified Pirates of Paxton, on a search for the truth. The situation comes to a full boil when Wesley is apprehended and forced to answer some tough questions about his past. Will deception be revealed and is confusion put to rest? Better not tell you now. With dramatic, silly, twists of plot and fate, this sidesplitting operetta will have you laughing and rolling on deck!
